Bombing survivor Jeff Bauman and fiancee expecting a baby

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) -- Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman and his fiancee are expecting their first child together this summer.

The announcement was made in Parade Magazine on Sunday. The magazine published excerpts from Bauman's upcoming book, "Stronger," and also printed a first-hand reflection from his fiancee, Erin Hurley.

"Jeff and I have our own house now. We're engaged, and I'm pregnant, due this July," Hurley said in the article. "Nothing about this year was planned. Not much about the future is, either, but that's life, full of twists and turns."

Sunday afternoon, the couple told  the Associated Press that they don't know if it's a boy or a girl, and they want it to be a surprise. They became engaged in February, and plan to marry in 2015.

"My mom loves it. My dad's going crazy," Bauman said. As for himself, "I just want to be a good dad."

The announcement was also made Sunday morning on Bauman's foundation page, "Jeff Bauman -- Boston Strong, True Patriot and Hero."

"We are so happy to share with you exciting news that has happened over the last few months," the announcement reads. "Jeff and Erin became engaged and are expecting their first child in the summer!!! Congratulations Jeff and Erin!!"

The 28-year-old lost both of his legs in the blast, and he became a well-known face of the tragedy after a photo of him in a wheelchair and Carlos Arredondo at his side went viral.

The FBI has also credited Bauman with helping them identify one of the alleged bombers. After he woke up from surgery, he was able to give agents a description of Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

"We stared at each other for eight, maybe 10 seconds," he wrote in his book, which will be released on April 8.
