BMC launches dog visiting program for patients

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Friendly pups are cheering up hospital floors and greeting patients at their bedside.

The Boston Medical Center has rolled out a program called Healing Paws, which is a pet therapy program where certified therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers visit patients during their stay.

Healing Paws is based on research that dogs help medical patients relax and feel nurtured.

The Boston Medical Center's goal is to improve their patients' health.

Program directors say, however, it's not for everyone. Patients need a doctor's order to participate.
