Blood drives to be held in remembrance of Marathon bombings

Framingham, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Mass. State Police and the American Red Cross are hosting a blood drive Tuesday in remembrance of the Boston Marathon bombings.

They say the event, which will be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at State Police headquarters in Framingham, will serve as a healing moment and special way to mark the solemn occasion.

"First responders such as police officers, firefighters, and EMTs know firsthand the lifesaving value of blood donations for victims of traumatic incidents. The victims of these incidents are always in our thoughts. We are honored to partner with the American Red Cross to kick off this series of blood drives in remembrance of the Marathon bombings. We are urging as many of our personnel as possible to donate blood,' said Colonel Timothy Alben, Massachusetts State Police.

Several blood drives are being held this month in remembrance of the bombings. Those who would like to donate can make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (733-2767) or by visiting redcrossblood.org.
