BOSTON — A car matching the description of the vehicle sought in a deadly hit-and-run Sunday morning has been found in a garage downtown, police said Tuesday morning.
Early Sunday morning, 29-year-old Richard "Rick" Arthur of South Boston was hit by a car on Commonwealth Avenue. Arthur died from his injuries Tuesday morning.
The car, which witnesses told police was speeding, took off after hitting the man. Police said the suspect vehicle is a silver four-door sedan that may have front end damage.
Boston police said a tip from a security guard came in Tuesday morning alerting them to a car in the Boston Common garage that matched the suspect vehicle involved in the accident.
There is visible damage on the driver's side windshield. Police were taking photos and dusting for prints while they waited for a warrant to search the car. They say they also need to figure out how they will get the car out of the garage once they receive the warrant, because a tow truck will not fit underground.
