Belchertown police still actively searching for man accused of breaking baby's ribs

UPDATE: Truehart was arrested June 10. He was discovered living in the crawl space under a kitchen sink.

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) --Belchertown police are still actively searching for a man accused of breaking a baby's ribs and he is now on the Mass. Most Wanted list.

Keith Truehart, 30, is wanted in connection with assaulting a 9-month-old baby in November of last year. Police say they responded to a call for a child injured from a fall, and when they arrived the baby had significant bruising to his forehead and around both of his eyes.

Paramedics initially treated the baby who was then taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors found he had two rib fractures in the process of healing. They also found that the newest injuries were not accidental.

Police then learned that Truehart was alone with the baby when he was injured, but left before police and paramedics arrived. That, along with other evidence allowed police to arrest the 30-year-old on two counts of assault and battery on a child with substantial injury and one count of intimidation of a witness. He is also wanted on a second warrant for charges of assault and battery and malicious destruction of property.

He has several convictions on his criminal record, police say, and is known to have ties to the Belchertown, Amherst and Holyoke areas. Truehart is described as a white man with short brown hair and green eyes. He weighs about 185 pounds and has several tattoos, including the name Tina on his right arm and a dragon with a sword on his upper left arm.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 413-323-6685 or 1-800-KAPTURE.
