TRURO, Mass. — Several beaches on the Cape were closed to swimming Friday after great white shark sightings earlier in the week, but they reopened Saturday morning.

The town of Truro said they received a report that there were as many as six great white sharks feeding on a dead whale that was originally sighted four miles out from Pamet Harbor.

The Center for Coastal Studies has since said that it was only two sharks feeding on the whale, never six. The carcass eventually washed up near Noons Landing in North Truro.

Due to the reported sightings, Noons Landing, Beach Point and Cold Storage beaches have been closed to swimming.

Truro asks that beach goers on the bay side be vigilant and report any sighting to Truro Police.
