Bar owner admits to misleading police after patron injured

BOSTON — John Rogaris pleaded guilty Tuesday to withholding evidence, witness intimidation and misleading an investigator, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said Wednesday.

The 45-year-old owner of Roggie's bar was given a two-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service.

The sentence comes after a 20-year-old Irish man fell down a flight of stairs inside Roggie's on May 23, 2014, suffering serious head injuries.

Prosecutors say Rogaris tried to pay off a witness, directed employees to move the man outside and attempted to conceal surveillance video.

They say the man, who Conley's office did not identify, could have died had a passerby not found him and called for help.
