ARLINGTON, Mass. — A babysitter from Care.com has been charged after police said they found her stumbling around a neighborhood, drunk and high, while she was watching a young boy.

Police found Susan Devereaux, 51 of Medford, around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after a call from a neighbor. Police said they found her smelling of alcohol. She was with a three-year-old boy at the time and admitted to police she was the child's babysitter.

“I saw a woman walking and she was probably 20 feet ahead of him. He was just trying to keep up,” Matthew Wolfe, a neighbor, said.

The child's mother told police she had hired Devereaux on Care.com.

“From the investigation on scene miss Devereux had multiple alcoholic beverages along with prescription drugs,” Arlington Police Capt. Richard Flynn said.

FOX25 spoke with Devereaux through a window at her home, and she claimed "those bottles were in the car from before and that this a complete misunderstanding.”

Devereux has been charged with reckless endangerment of a child. Her arraignment is scheduled for September 14.
