HOPKINTON, Mass. — A Hopkinton police officer is credited with saving the day for a couple of apartment dwellers in town. About 9:20 a.m. Sunday morning, he saw smoke coming out the top floor of a house at 17 Main St. and immediately called the town’s fire department.
That fire, which remained confined to the third floor and the attic, wound up exploding into a three-alarm situation, requiring mutual aid from departments including Framingham, Holliston, Ashland and Southborough.

Those residents lost belongings, and a chiropractic office in the rear of the building suffered losses as well.
The two people displaced by the fire managed to escape on their own, said Hopkinton Deputy Fire Chief Bill Miller. There were no injuries.
“This is tough,” Deputy Chief Miller said. “Especially with the current times we’re in with the pandemic and everything that’s going on.”
