BOSTON — The high-end Parisian retailer Hermés on Boylston Street had its storefront damaged after a car rammed into it early Sunday morning.
According to Boston Police, a collision between two vehicles caused one of them to careen into the store at around 2 a.m.
"I was about to go to sleep and then I heard a crash," said Andrew McCabe, a witness to the incident who was in a hotel room overlooking Boylston Street at the time. "I didn't see anything at first, and then 10, 15 minutes later there were ambulances and police everywhere."
A source on the scene of the crash said they saw one of the drivers take off on foot while another witness chased them.
The incident happened just a few feet away from the Arlington T station, and hours after the crash, glass and debris were still covering the sidewalk.
On Sunday, crews had to replace a pedestrian "walk" sign that had been dislodged during the crash.
The store manager said that thankfully most of the storefront had been spared, given it could've been a lot worse. He is hopeful the store can reopen on Monday morning.
