FALL RIVER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A couple who called 911 after their 25 month old daughter was injured is now facing charges for child abuse, and the child is in DCF custody.
According to police, 35-year-old Carl Taylor and 27-year-old Ora Taylor of Fall River called 911 after their daughter fell in the shower and was experiencing difficulty breathing.
The child was transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital and after life-saving treatment, was transferred to Hasbro Childrenâs Hospital.
A medical examination revealed that the child had older injuries that were not consistent with the fall in the shower. The child is in critical condition, police say.
On Wednesday, both parents were arrested and charged with assault and battery on a child under 14 causing substantial injury, wanton and reckless endangerment of a child, permitting substantial injury to a child, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon by adult on a child under 14. DCF now has physical custody of the child.
"The Department received a report and is investigating, and an appropriate referral was made to the local District Attorney. The child remains in the custody of the Department of Children and Families," a spokesperson for DCF said Thursday.
A judge set Carl Taylor's bail at $100,000, and Ora Taylor's at $10,000.
The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
