BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 4-alarm fire on Broad Street in Bridgewater that destroyed one building and heavily damaged another has been determined suspicious.
K-9 units were on the scene of the fire Tuesday morning, as authorities began an arson investigation. Bridgewater Fire Chief George Rogers said that the vacant home where the fire started had a few small fires set inside it two weeks ago.
The fire started at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, and flames were so intense that it leveled the vacant home and spread to the adjacent home, which was also vacant. The roof of that home collapsed completely.
Ken Sharlan, who lives across the street from the fire, said the fire burned so bright that it was "like daytime" outside. He was evacuated from his home as a precaution. The head from the flames damaged the siding on his home.
"I could feel the heat through the glass," he said.
One firefighter was taken to Brockton Hospital with minor leg injuries.
Fire crews were actually outside the home yesterday, pre-planning what to do if a fire were to break out there, Rogers said.
