3 teens injured after bleachers collapse at game in Swampscott

SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Three teens were hurt after part of the stands at Blocksidge Field in Swampscott collapsed during a Powder Puff football game Saturday.

reported the teenagers were sitting on the visitor's side at the game between Marblehead and Swampscott when a wooden board broke beneath them. They were about 15 feet above the ground.

One of the teens was transported to the hospital with a possible broken leg, while the other teens were treated at the scene. The stands were reportedly evacuated after the collapse.

An official with the Department of Public Works told the newspaper a "condemned portion" of the bleachers was recently removed.

A man advocating for renovations at Blocksidge Field said to his knowledge, the remaining stands were structurally sound.

Town officials were expected to meet Monday to discuss the incident.
