3 students struck by lightning at Mass. school

GRANBY, Mass. (AP) - Three students are recovering after getting struck by lightning at a western Massachusetts private school.

Steve Griffin, head of the MacDuffie School in Granby, says the students were struck while sitting outside at a picnic table on Tuesday afternoon.

He tells The Daily Hampshire Gazette that two students were knocked unconscious while a third suffered less serious effects. Three faculty members performed CPR at the scene before all three students were taken to area hospitals.

MacDuffie is a coeducational school with about 200 students in grades 6 through 12, about half whom are boarders.

Their ages are 16, 17 and 20. He did not disclose names.
