WALPOLE, Mass. — Three kids went missing overnight in Walpole, triggering a large police search.
The boys, who are between the ages of 11 and 13 years old, reside at the Home for Little Wanderers on Lincoln Road. According to the facility's website, Home for Little Wanderers provides residential programs for youths who need to be in an out-of-home placement. Often, according to the website, these children have experienced abuse, neglect or severe behavioral problems.
Around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, police and K-9s could be seen searching for the boys, who ended up walking three to four miles.
"They got into the MBTA tracks and walked to Walpole Center," Chief John Carmichael told FOX25.
The boys ended up at 7-11, where the clerk was aware police had been searching for missing kids. The clerk told FOX25 that, as he went to call the non-emergency hotline, an officer pulled into the parking lot.
All three boys are technically in the care of the Department of Children and Families. Chief Carmichael told FOX25 that DCF is investigating how the boys got away from security.
