2 dead, 3 in critical condition following police chase and crash in Avon

AVON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An early morning police chase in Brockton ended as a deadly crash in Avon on Monday.

Officials say the car was involved in a police chase in Brockton before hitting a telephone pole on Harrison Boulevard in Avon around 2:30 a.m.

A man and a woman have been confirmed dead in the crash by Avon Police. They were identified Monday afternoon as Matthew Andrade and Denise Moreira, both 21, and both from Brockton. Three people, one man and two woman, are in critical condition and were taken to a Brockton hospital for treatment. Their names have not been released.

Police say the police chase began as an attempted traffic stop. The driver of the car was not killed.

Avon, Brockton and State Police were called to the scene to investigate.
