16-year-old girl killed in multi-vehicle crash in Seekonk

SEEKONK, Mass. — A 16-year-old girl died after she was caught in a four-vehicle car crash on Sunday night.

Gisella Carrier, of New Bedford, was the passenger inside a 2011 Chrysler that was hit by a 2019 Chevy Silverado pickup.

Preliminary investigation shows the Silverado had been traveling east on Route 195 in Seekonk at around 8 p.m. when, while passing Exit 1, wasn’t able to stop in time to avoid slowing traffic ahead.

A car fire approximately a mile down the road had caused the traffic to slow down, but the Silverado, traveling in the middle lane, hit the back of the Chrysler, forcing it into the rear of a 2005 Acura sedan, which was pushed into the rear of a 2017 Lexus SUV.

Carrier, a passenger inside the Chrylser, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was pronounced dead as soon as she arrived at the hospital. The two other people inside the Chrysler, a 40-year-old New Bedford woman and a 14-year-old boy, were also injured. The driver was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in providence while the boy was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Silverado, accused of causing the chain reaction crash, was identified as a 43-year-old Johnston, Rhode Island man and was carrying a 17-year-old female passenger.

All four occupants of the Acura were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries. The driver was a 24-year-old New Bedford man and the three passengers were women, ages 22 and 24, and a man, 27, all of New Bedford.

The person driving the Lexus, 34-year-old Providence man, was not injured in the crash, but was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

Authorities continue to investigate this crash.
