The boy recently returned from Puerto Rico, where officials believe he became infected, Interim Health Commissioner Dr. O'dell Owens told WCPO.
A school nurse alerted health officials after the boy became sick.
The case marks the second recorded Zika infection in Cincinnati. The first was a man in his 50s who also contracted the illness during a trip to the Caribbean earlier this summer, WCPO reported.
About 2,700 travel-related cases of the Zika virus have been reported in the U.S. as of the end of August, according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Thirty-five other cases have been contracted locally.
