DANVERS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) - Two people were transported to Beverly Hospital and one man is in custody after a late night shooting and standoff at a Danvers hotel.
The shooting at the Knights Inn was reported at about 11 p.m. Wednesday and quickly drew the response of a SWAT team.
Police say one victim had been shot in the upper thigh and one in the knee, and both had lost a lot of blood and were "screaming in pain." Hotel management told guests to lie on the floor to avoid getting shot.
A suspect was taken into custody just before midnight.
The suspect, Jonathan R. Alequin, 27, of Wisconsin told police that he acted in self-defense because the other men threatened to beat him. He pled not guilty in court Thursday and was held without bail. He is due next in court on Sept. 19.
