LYNN, Mass. — The Essex County DA’s office is investigating a shooting in the city that left one person dead and injured another one on Monday night.

Officers were dispatched to a home at 4 Jones Terrace just after 6 p.m. for reports of a person shot. At the scene, responding officers found two people had been shot.

“I heard gunshots and I went running to my grandma and she said, ‘Oh no it’s just fireworks,’ and I’m like, ‘There’s gunshots, there’s gunshots,’ and five minutes later I see ambulances and police just coming and I got super worried,” said Jessica Rosario, a neighbor. “Then my grandma told me go in the bathroom and lock the bathroom and shut both doors.”

One victim, a 22-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital, while the other, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead on scene. He has been identified as Christopher Gutierrez of Lynn. The injured victim was taken to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington and is expected to survive.

“I heard a helicopter flying around for a while and I just kept seeing state police coming by and coming by,” said Stephen O’Shea. “I just happened to see a blanket so obviously someone’s in the driveway, passed away I don’t know what happened.”

Police have not made any arrests in connection to this shooting.

Authorities continue to investigate this incident.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story had the victim listed as 33 years old. This story has been corrected to reflect the DA identified the victim as a 34-year-old man.
