SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. — A homeowner is being accused of setting his own residence on fire in Swampscott Saturday evening.

The home at 11 Linden Ave. went up in flames just before 6 p.m. Neighbors said they heard an explosion and then saw flames shooting out of the home.

"I looked out the window and I saw his (homeowner Timothy Brosnan) whole house was on fire then I see him sitting on his car over there and he even admitted to police what he did,” Kasey Litman, a neighbor, told FOX25.

Police said that Timothy Brosnan, 56, set fire to his own home and he's been placed under arrest. Officials are now working on a motive for an arson.

As reported on FOX25 News at 10, fire officials said the blaze started in the immediate vicinity of the garage and quickly spread to the left side of the home.

Neighbors like Edye Baker grieve for the teenagers she said live at the house that's now a shell.

"There's all their things, all their memories, all their books, all the stuff that makes your life when you're a kid and that to me is the saddest part,” said Baker.

Brosnan has been charged with arson.
