'High School Musical' cast to reunite for 10th anniversary

The stars of the hit Disney Channel movie "High School Musical" are reuniting for a special telecast.

The Walt Disney Company announced the special Sunday, which will take place Wednesday, Jan. 20 on the Disney Channel.

The show will bring together all but one of the original cast members: Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman. Zac Efron, whose career took off after the movie, will join via a pre-taped message to "High School Musical" fans. His movie with Robert DeNiro, Dirty Grandpa, premieres Jan. 22.

"Oh the feels....... Get ready because we're back celebrating 10th anniversary ‪#wildcats‬ ‪#hsm‬," Ashley Tisdale posted on Facebook.

"High School Musical" was an unexpected hit for the Disney Channel, and the songs from the movie skyrocketed on the iTunes charts. It was the first ever TV movie soundtrack to reach number one on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and was the number one album of 2006.

Two spinoffs followed, High School Musical 2, which premiered on the Disney Channel, and High School Musical 3, which premiered in theaters. All three movies followed the relationship of Troy and Grabriella, portrayed by Efron and Hudgens, and delved into social norms and expectations.

The special will show the movie and have taped nostalgic interstitial segments from the cast.
