A baby’s life is full of firsts, the first word, first solid foods, the first steps.

But one little girl’s first bus ride came a little earlier than most.

Guadalupe Lara and Eduarco Centeno were dropping their three older kids off at elementary school in Chicago when Lara's contractions began, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Everything was fine as the trip to the hospital began, but shortly after, she said she had to push and yelled that the baby was coming, the Sun-Times reported.

Lara was 9 months pregnant, but she thought she had time, so they got on the bus to head to the hospital.

Needless to say, they didn’t make it to the hospital.

Lara gave birth to baby Samantha on the No. 9 bus thanks to the help of her husband and an unidentified passenger, the newspaper reported.

There were about 25 other people on the bus who were escorted off by the bus driver, WMAQ reported.

By the time emergency responders arrived, Lara was holding Samantha in her arms, the fire department’s spokesman told the Sun times.
