A LITTLE RAIN & SNOW TONIGHT
Monday saw the mercury reach the low 50s in some inland towns. Now we’re tracking a cold front that will bring some scattered light rain and snow showers overnight. We only expect a patchy dusting north and west of Boston, with some wet roads and flakes out the door in SE MA in the morning.
Expect increasing sunshine in the afternoon, but highs only make the middle 30s. Wednesday will be even chillier with highs near the freezing mark.
Temperatures get a brief boost on Thursday with a shift in winds. An arctic front will come through at night with no more than a stray flurry. The big weather story this week will be the cold and wind that follow.
Bitter arctic air will surge into New England Friday and Saturday with plummeting temperatures. It will be the coldest weather we’ve seen this winter. In fact, it looks like the coldest weather since February 2016! Gusts 30+ mph will also produce concerns about dangerous wind chills.
I expect a drop through the 20s during the day on Friday. Brace for subzero sunrise lows Saturday morning with wind chills -20 to -35... That’s a dangerous cold if you’re not dressed properly with a very real threat of frostbite. Keep your early weekend plans inside. Highs will only reach the teens Saturday afternoon with wind chills remaining below zero.
Fortunately, the arctic blast will be short lived. By Sunday highs should rebound back to the seasonal upper 30s.
