Ravens, Jackson run wild, hand Patriots first loss of season

BALTIMORE, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens handed the New England Patriots their first loss of the season on Sunday night, beating the defending Super Bowl Champions, 37-20, in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson was as advertised on the ground and in the air, running in two scores and throwing for another.

Jackson ran for 63 yards and threw for 163 yards on the night.

Tom Brady racked up a slew of passing yards on 30-of-46 attempts. He finished the day with 285 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

The Ravens (6-2) jumped out to a 17-point lead early in the first half on rushing touchdowns from Jackson and Gus Edwards, while K Justin Tucker added a field goal. That's when the New England offense went to work.

Capitalizing on a muffed punt by former Patriot Cyrus Jones, New England (8-1) took over from the Baltimore 20. Four plays later, Brady found WR Mohamed Sanu Sr. for a 4-yard touchdown. It was the 74th different player that has caught a touchdown pass from Brady – an NFL record.

Another Baltimore turnover – this time a fumble by Mark Ingram – a few possessions later gave New England the ball at the Baltimore 19-yard line, which New England then converted into a field goal. Another close field goal by Nick Folk at the end of the half brought the New England deficit to 17-13.

And while the Patriots received the second-half kickoff, the first drive of the half resulted in points for the Ravens. CB Marlon Humphrey recovered a Julian Edelman fumble at the Baltimore 30 and returned it 70 yards for the touchdown.

The Patriots, who had been driving down the field before the fumble, came back on the next series and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by James White to bring the deficit back to four points.

Baltimore again responded with a long drive of their own, marching down the field on 14 plays, which was capped off with a 5-yard pass to TE Nick Boyle. Jackson would run in his second touchdown of the night to put the game out of reach with just over three minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
