Folk's initial release came days after the kicker reportedly needed an appendectomy at the end of November. In Folk's place, the Patriots signed kicker Kai Forbath, who converted one of two extra points and drilled a 23-yard field goal against the Texans. He was later released.
In three games with the Patriots so far, Folk was 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts and 7-of-9 field goals. His two misses were at Gillette against the Dallas Cowboys in a rain-soaked game.
The Patriots initially signed Folk in late October after releasing kicker Mike Nugent after four games.
New England's tumultuous situation at kicker began at the start of October, when kicker Stephen Gostkowski was sidelined for the year with a hip injury. Since then, the Patriots have had three kickers suit up in the regular season, with Folk now returning for his second stint with the team.
The Patriots (10-2) host the Kansas City Chiefs (8-4) on Sunday afternoon.
