In a bit of a surprising move, the Packers released former Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett on Wednesday afternoon with a failure to disclose designation.

Bennett wasn’t as productive with the Packers in 2017 as he was with the Patriots in the team’s run to Super Bowl 51, as the tight end wraps up his time in Green Bay with just 24 catches for 233 yards and no touchdowns. Just in 2016, Bennett put together a season with 55 catches for 701 yards and seven touchdowns for the Patriots, and could potentially return to the team after getting cut Wednesday.

Bennett stated on October 28 that he would likely be retiring at the end of the season, and was ruled out for Week 9 and Week 10 since then with a shoulder injury. Now, it’ll be interesting to see if any playoff contenders, specifically his former team in New England, decide to swoop in and pick up the tight end for any late season runs.
