Erod dominates Dodgers at Fenway

DEDHAM — The Boston Red Sox haven't played the Los Angeles Dodgers in nine months.  But on Friday night at Fenway Park they picked up right where they left off last October in Dodger Stadium by beating last year's National League Champions 8-1.

The Red Sox got a great start from Eddie Rodriguez who threw 7 quality innings.  Erod gives up just one run on five hits and strikes out ten Dodgers to get his staff leading 10th win.

As for offense, the Red Sox hit three homers in the game.  Rafael Devers with a solo shot in the first inning. It was his 17th homer of the year.

In the 2nd inning Christian Vazquez continued his power surge.  His solo shot of Maeda gave the Sox a 2-1 lead and it was Vazquez 15th homer of the year.

The Sox led 4-1 in the 7th when the rains came.  After a long rain delay when play resumed Xander Bogaerts hit his 18th homer of the season.  The three run shot gave the Sox an 8-1 lead.

The Yankees also won on Friday night, beating  the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0.  So the Red Sox remain 9 games behind the Yankees in the AL East.

Red Sox and Dodgers play again on Saturday night at 7:15 at Fenway with Chris Sale starting against Ross Stripling.

The game can be seen locally on Boston 25.
