Doc Rivers weighs in on Nike campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick

Nike was receiving feedback left and right for their ad campaign featuring former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, with some speaking positively about the move and others criticizing it.

At the ABCD Hoop Dreams event on Tuesday at the TD Garden, former Celtics coach Doc Rivers weighed in on the situation.

"Colin Kaepernick was not protesting the flag or the military," Rivers said. "I hate that, that message has gotten out there because it's an untrue message. What he was fighting for is for us to be aware of social injustices. Not just blacks, but everyone."

Rivers said that Kaepernick's dedication to the cause was something he's tried to pass along to others in his life.

"I think that is important, for someone to do that," Rivers said. "The fact that he was willing to lose his career over it, this is something I have talked to my boys about a lot. I hear you want to protest, but are you willing to lose your job over it?"

Rivers said it was his biggest regret in his career that he was not more socially active when he was a player in the NBA.
