NEW YORK — Bruins forward David Backes has been suspended three games for injuring Red Wings' forward Frans Nielsen with a blow to the head in Tuesday's game at TD Garden.
Backes, who has never been fined or suspended throughout his NHL career, is expected to appeal the suspension.
