October 10 is World Mental Health Day, a day "with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health," according to the World Health Organization.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, one in five Americans face mental health issues.
Events are being held across the country and Massachusetts Thursday for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma:
- This is My Brave performance — 5-7 p.m. at the Marran Theatre at Lesley University, 34 Mellen Street, Cambridge.
- In Our Own Voice/ A Fundraiser for the National Alliance on Mental Illness — 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Fleuri Designs, The Street Chestnut Hill, 7 Boylston Street, Newton.
- Candlelight vigil — 5:30-7 p.m. at Buttonwood Park Zoo parking lot, 425 Hawthorne Street, New Bedford.
- Community Conversation: Mental Health in the Black Community — 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, 2300 Washington Street, Boston.
- Community Conversation: Talking about Suicide and the Role of Prevention — 6-7:30 p.m. at Northern Essex Community College Hartleb Technology Center, Room TC 103 A & B, 100 Elliot Street, Haverhill.
- Social Hour for Social Anxiety: Celebrate OCD Awareness Week with a Group Exposure — 6-7 p.m. at UMass Medical Center Hiatt Auditorium Room S1-608, 55 Lake Street, Worcester.
- Documentary Screening of Orchestrating Change — 6-8 p.m. at the Boston Public Library Rabb Hall, 700 Boylston Street, Boston.
- SHINE Initiative gala: Former WNBA star and Olympic Gold Medalist shares story of her battle with depression — 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main Street, Worcester.
