7 firms show interest in Worcester Red Sox ballpark project

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Seven architectural firms have shown an interest in the redevelopment project that includes a new stadium in Worcester for the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that some of them have an award-winning track record of designing sports facilities.

The city's Designer Selection Board, made up of city staff from several departments, will interview representatives from each firm next week and then rank the proposals.

Construction of the $100 million, 10,000-seat ballpark is scheduled to begin next July and be completed by March 2021 in time for the team currently known as the Pawtucket Red Sox to move in for the 2021 season.

Under an agreement between the city and the team, the city is required to hire a project manager for the stadium by Oct. 10.
