Woman charged with child endangerment after being found on top of infant

NORTH READING, Mass. — A 33-year-old woman has been arrested after being found unmoving on top of an infant.

Police said they were called to the home around 4 a.m. Saturday morning for a report of a home invasion. When officers arrived, they discovered the garage door was open, and while conducting an exterior search of the home one officer heard what was believed to be muffled crying sounds in a bedroom.

An officer said he looked in the window and saw a woman, later identified as Christina Bianchi, passed on top of the bed, not moving and possibly under the influence of drugs.

When the officer entered the home to provide medical assistance, he discovered an infant’s hand sticking underneath from under the woman.

At this point, according to the Middlesex District Attorney, Bianchi was told that she was being arrested and began fighting with officers.

The child was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.

Bianchi faces charges of assault and battery on a child with injury, reckless endangerment of a child, and resisting arrest.
