Woman attacked while walking dog in Callahan State Park

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Framingham police are warning people to be cautious if out exploring Callahan State Park after a woman was attacked by a man while she was walking her dog on Sunday.

Police said the woman was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground Sunday afternoon.

She started screaming and that’s when her attacker ran off into the woods.

“I mean, it’s shocking but there was an incident last year at the park,” Sandy Peckham said. “There were helicopters, cars here last year. So something had happened as well. And there’s been many break-ins here at the dog park.”

Peckham walks her dog at the park at the time and said the assault won’t stop her from doing what she loves. But it will make her more cautious walking the trails from now on.

“You just have to be kind if vigilant, like I do,” she said. “I used to come here at 10 p.m. and walk in the dark, but I don’t do that anymore. I’ve come to my senses. You have to be a little more careful.”

The attacker is described as a white male with a dark complexion, facial hair, shaved head, mid to late 20s, 6’ tall. He was wearing a blue tank top, yellow basketball shorts and a black backpack at the time.

Police said he fled to the trails toward the Edmands Road parking area and has not exited the wooded trails.
