Walsh tells FOX25 he will ‘absolutely not' get indicted

BOSTON — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is denying any wrongdoing while he was the head of the Boston Building Trades, and told FOX25 he is confident he won’t face charges in an alleged federal probe of organized labor.

"I know I did nothing wrong as head of the Building Trades. That's not my style," Walsh told FOX25's political reporter Sharman Sacchetti.

When she asked if he could get indicted, the mayor responded, “Absolutely not.”

The mayor isn’t sure what’s behind the leaks, and when asked if the FBI was “fishing” for information, he told FOX25, “The FBI hasn’t contacted me, so I don’t know what’s going on here.”

Walsh told FOX25 he never tried to coerce any developer into using union help while he was president of the Boston Building Trades. This is all reportedly part of a bigger investigation into whether or not unions are pressuring developers.

“I love being mayor of the City of Boston. I think that there might be some people out there that used to have access to City Hall that don’t have it today, and they’re upset about it,” Walsh said.

The Boston Globe has reported the mayor was caught on wiretap promising developer Avalon that it would have a tough time getting permits in Boston if it didn’t hire Union help for a development in Somerville.

Walsh says he doesn’t know about the wiretap, but said, “I didn’t pressure Avalon at all.”

FOX25 has reported a member of the Walsh administration was mentioned in an indictment of five teamsters accused of harassing a crew for the TV show “Top Chef.”

Walsh told FOX25 he is unclear about the scope of the alleged investigation, but says he knows he is not involved in it. The mayor said he has “not testified” in grand jury proceedings regarding “a building trade investigation up and down the East Coast.”

FOX25 called the FBI, but the agency had no comment.

The mayor told FOX25 he advocated on behalf of working class people for jobs when he headed up the building trades. He says all developers are treated the same now that he is the mayor.
