Walsh: Fatal Dorchester shooting appears to be random

BOSTON — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said it appears that a fatal shooting reported in Dorchester was a random act.

Police were called to a triple-decker on Devon Street around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

They said they found a man with a gunshot wound in an apartment on the second floor.

That man, identified as 59-year-old Arnold Woodrum, of Dorchester, later died at a hospital.

Walsh, who lives in Dorchester, said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear.

"It appears to be kind of a random shooting at this point," Walsh said. "We're (going to) get to the root of it, see what the issue was and then we'll get that information out as soon as we know."

This shooting death was Boston's 19th homicide of 2019.
