Video shows driver hit Boston pedestrian at busy intersection

BOSTON — The disturbing video shows a driver go through a red light and then strike a pedestrian, who is tossed onto the hood of the car and then falls onto the pavement.

It's proof that something needs to be done about reckless driving at the busy intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Adams Street in the city's Dorchester neighborhood, said Vivian Girard, co-owner of the Homestead Bakery in Fields Corner.

“People are going too fast," Girard said Tuesday.

Another local resident, Francisco de la Cruz, agrees.

“The traffic is really bad. I mean this intersection is the worst at Fields Corner. It’s just the worst," de la Cruz said.

Girard said he saw the aftermath of the Dec. 5 crash. Then, he checked his security camera, which captured the pedestrian being struck. He later uploaded the video to YouTube.

The video highlights the problem of reckless driving at the intersection, Girard said.

Even though the speed limit was dropped along this stretch of road recently from 30 mph to 25 mph, both Girard and de la Cruz said more needs to be done.

The condition of the pedestrian struck was not known Tuesday.

On YouTube, Girard wrote of the need for increased enforcement at the intersection.

“As sadly demonstrated today, this intersection is unsafe at all times for pedestrians,” he wrote. “Structural improvement AND enforcement are badly needed here.”
