Victim's family tracks down Boston DPW worker accused of hit-and-run

BOSTON — A Boston Department of Public Works employee is being accused of hitting a young man's car and fleeing the scene during the Wednesday morning commute.

Boston 25 News spoke to the victim's family, who said they were able to take a picture of his car and track him down.

At around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, witnesses said a man behind the wheel of a pickup truck hit a 20-year-old man driving a Nissan Altima on Adams Street near Fox Street.

The driver of the pickup, whose identity has not been released at this time, ended up leaving a trail of evidence on the road as he fled the scene of the crash.

The victim's family said they tracked down the pickup at a DPW lot on Hancock Street less than a mile away from the scene.

"We had to track him down, we found him before the police found him," said Monica Cannon-Grant, the victim's mother. "It was a stupid move for him to leave - the amount of damage, he could've critically injured my child."

A neighbor took a photo of the truck at the scene and helped the victim's father piece together what had happened.

Boston Police confirmed the driver was cited for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with property damage and was also cited for a marked lanes violation. He has not yet been charged with a crime.

The victim told Boston 25 News the driver had told him he was going to pull over after the alleged incident, but instead sped off. One of the wheels on the truck was apparently locked during the accident and dragged on the concrete as the driver fled, leaving a trail on the ground.

The victim went to Boston Children's Hospital for an evaluation following the crash soon after the incident and was released shortly after.

A city spokesperson confirms that Boston city officials are aware of the incident and are expected to release more information on Thursday.
