Victim of prestigious private school sex assault releases book

CONCORD, N.H. — A New Hampshire teen who was sexually assaulted while attending a prestigious private school has written a memoir.

Chessy Prout’s book, I Have the Right To, was released Tuesday.

Four years ago Prout was a freshman at St. Paul’s School in Concord when she was sexually assaulted by then-senior Owen Labrie

Boston 25 News spoke with Jenn Abelson Tuesday. She co-wrote the book.

She said one of Prout’s goals was to empower other survivors and help their loved ones build a support system.

“Beyond that, I think the important message is to start a conversation that consent and healthy relationships are topics that need to be addressed with children,” Abelson said.

She also said the book goes beyond sexual assault and everyone can take something away from it, not just victims of abuse.
