Uxbridge High School student hit while riding her bicycle to school

UXBRIDGE, Mass. — An active scene for most of the day as police spent hours investigating Thursday morning’s crash.

“It just makes me sick for everyone. The little girl, her family, the person who hit her. I’ve been thinking about it all day because the police have been at the bottom of the driveway. I was just thinking how everyone must feel. It’s just awful,” said neighbor Susan Frabotta.

A blue bike and brown backpack lay on the side of the road. Uxbridge Police say at 7:15am a girl riding her bicycle to Uxbridge High School was hit by a landscaping truck. Police say she was riding her bike against traffic. The passenger side mirror of the truck was ripped off and police say the driver did remain on scene. The girl was flown by medical helicopter to UMass-Memorial Hospital.

“Very sad. Actually, I think it’s the girl, the neighbor in back. If it’s her, I knew her,” said Bill Harney.

Neighbors tell us this is a very busy stretch of Quaker highway, particularly in the morning.

“Usually it’s pretty busy, especially with the straight away,” said neighbor Michael Romasco.

By late afternoon the white landscaping truck was towed from the scene. Police have not given an update on the girl’s condition out or released her name. No charges have been filed, either.
