BOSTON — Four people were injured after an MBTA ferry ran aground after being cut off by a sailing boat, according to a spokesperson for the MBTA.

According to the Coast Guard, the ferry called MV Lightning hit a rock and ran aground near Long Island Head at around 7:45 a.m. The MV Lightning was traveling to Boston from Hull in heavy fog and at low tide.

There were 84 people on board the ferry on their way to Boston at the time of the incident. They were taken to Black Falcon Terminal in Boston by the State Police Marine Unit.

According to Boston EMS, three people were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

The Coast Guard is working to determine what caused the incident. They have not yet confirmed the MBTA's report that another boat was a part of it.
