Hend Bustami, 28, allegedly killed her mother, Afaf Hassanen, on Oct. 26, 2022. According to KVVU, Bustami called 911 to report her mother’s death and then drove out of Nevada. She was arrested in Barstow by California Highway Patrol.

Bustami was reportedly covered in blood, KLAS reported.

Bustami and Hassanene lived together at a house near Jones Boulevard and Cactus Avenue in Las Vegas.

Bustami was indicted last week by a grand jury and prosecutors say they are not pursuing the death penalty KVVU reported. Bustami has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors plated the 911 call Bustami reportedly made on Oct. 26 around 2:30 a.m. According to KLAS, the woman on the phone told the dispatcher, “I think I killed my mommy.”

“Why do you think you killed your mom?” The dispatcher asked, according to the news outlet.

“‘Cause I did. I murdered her,” Bustami said, according to KLAS.

“How did you do that?” The dispatcher asked.

“I broke the table,” Bustami replied, according to the news outlet.

The grand jury was also shown photos of the table along with shards of glass, KLAS reported.

Bustami reportedly told police that she got into a fight with his mother before she stabbed her with shards of glass, the news outlet reported.

Bustami was previously arrested in August after police say she skipped out on a restaurant bill and violated airport rules at Harry Reid International Airport. According to an arrest report obtained by KLAS, Bustami told police that she was under arrest because she “was so good-looking.”

A trial date has not yet been set.
