Woman, 92, randomly attacked while walking in New York; suspect with 100 prior arrests charged

NEW YORK — A New York man with 100 previous arrests is behind bars again after police said he randomly attacked a 92-year-old woman last week.

According to WNBC and WABC, New York police on Tuesday arrested Rashid Brimmage, 31, of the Bronx, in connection with the Friday attack, which was captured on surveillance video.

The victim, identified only as Geraldine by WNBC, was walking along Third Street in Manhattan's Gramercy Park neighborhood about 3:30 p.m. Friday when a man pushed her, police said. A surveillance camera captured the man walking away as the woman fell onto the sidewalk, her head striking a nearby fire hydrant, the news outlets reported.

The woman said passers-by helped her and called an ambulance, WABC reported. Geraldine, who was treated at an area hospital, told WNBC on Tuesday that she feels better physically but is now afraid to leave her home.

Brimmage, a convicted sex offender who has been arrested dozens of times, faces an assault charge in the case, authorities said. In the past four months, he's been accused of assaulting at least three other people, WNBC reported.

Geraldine told WNBC that she hopes Brimmage will "think about what he did" while he's in jail.

"Try to change, and try to make himself better," she told the news outlet.
