WATCH: Arkansas police officer saves choking toddler in dramatic dashcam video

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arkansas police officer is being hailed as a hero after he rescued a choking toddler Sunday night, authorities said.

According to KARK and KTHV, Little Rock police Officer James Phillips, a seven-year veteran of the department, was among the officers who checked on an SUV that suddenly stopped near Rebsamen Park.

When he discovered that a nearly 2-year-old boy inside the vehicle was choking, he sprang into action, pulling the child out of the SUV and using a Heimlich technique to dislodge a piece of candy from the toddler’s airway, the news outlets reported.

Dashcam footage captured the dramatic rescue, including the moment that the child began breathing and returned to his parents, according to KARK.
