WASHINGTON — Transportation Sec. Elaine Chao has become the first Cabinet secretary to resign after Wednesday’s riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Chao has been Transportation Secretary since Trump was inaugurated in 2017, The Hill reported.
Her resignation is effective Monday and her team will help President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee Pete Buttigieg with his transition to the office, The Hill reported.
Chao was tasked with rebuilding the country’s broken infrastructure of roads, bridges and highways, CNN reported.
Despite being married to Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the administration’s $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan hit roadblocks in Congress, CNN reported.
