Texas tornado: Twister reported near Salado; see photos, videos from the scene

SALADO, Texas — A tornado reportedly struck near Salado, Texas, on Tuesday as a storm system swept through the region, injuring nearly two dozen people, damaging buildings and knocking out power to thousands of customers.

According to KWTX and the Killeen Daily Herald, the twister was spotted shortly after 5:30 p.m. CDT before it crossed from Williamson County into Bell County, more than 50 miles north of Austin.

“This is a confirmed tornado to the SW of Salado,” the National Weather Service tweeted at the time.

Bell County Judge David Blackburn told KWTX that 23 people suffered storm-related injuries, including 12 who were hospitalized. He also said some buildings “were reduced to rubble,” according to the news outlet.

Early Wednesday, more than 57,000 customers across the state were without power, according to PowerOutage.US.
