The hospital shared photos of the infants dressed up as The Cat in the Hat, Corduroy, Madeline and The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other characters from favorite children’s books. In a news release, the hospital said that each baby will get to take the costume and book that inspired it home when they are released from the hospital.

The costumes were each handmade by the mother of one of the NICU nurses, the hospital said.

The hospital said that story time is beneficial for children of all ages, and has been proven to help with language acquisition and parent-infant bonding. It has also been shown to promote physical health.
