Queen Elizabeth II cancels trip to Scotland for UN climate conference

LONDON — Just days after she returned home following an overnight hospital stay, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II has announced that she will not attend a U.N. climate conference in person next week.

According to The Associated Press, Buckingham Palace released a statement Tuesday saying the 95-year-old won’t travel to Glasgow, Scotland, where she was slated to appear Monday evening at a reception for the U.N. Climate Change Conference of the Parties, also known as COP26.

“Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”

Last Wednesday, the palace announced that the queen had canceled a planned trip to Northern Ireland. Officials later revealed that she was admitted to the hospital Wednesday afternoon and returned home Thursday, the AP reported.
