Punched out: Florida man accused of hitting umpire after a called strike

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Getting punched out in baseball or softball means you were caught looking at strike three. According to police, a Florida man turned the tables on an umpire Tuesday night, punching an umpire after disputing a called strike.

Aaron Charles Dvorak, 38, of Cape Coral, was charged with battery on a person 65 years or older, the Fort Myers News-Press reported. He was released from the Lee County Jail after posting $10,000 bail, according to online booking records

Police were called to the Northwest Softball Complex in Cape Coral around 8:30 p.m., WINK-TV reported.

According to witnesses, Dvorak came to the plate during a softball game and complained about a strike call the umpire made, the News-Press reported. After an argument, Dvorak allegedly struck the umpire in the face, causing an injury to the official’s lip.

Dvorak was ejected from the game and left the field, WINK reported.

Officers spoke with Dvorak and arrested him, the television station reported.
