CHICAGO — A possible tornado struck suburban Chicago late Sunday, knocking out power to thousands, damaging buildings and causing injuries, authorities said.

According to WLS-TV, the suspected twister touched down around 11 p.m. CDT near south Naperville and traveled west for up to 15 miles, striking Woodridge and Burr Ridge before it weakened outside Justice about 20 minutes later.

Six people suffered minor injuries when the storm blew through a Naperville neighborhood, damaging 12 homes near Ranchview Drive, according to WBBM-TV. Officials also responded to reports of gas leaks, the news outlet reported.

In nearby Woodridge, no one was seriously injured but several structures were damaged, WLS reported.
As of early Monday, more than 35,000 customers in Illinois remained without power, according to PowerOutage.US.
The National Weather Service tweeted shortly before midnight that it will conduct a survey Monday morning to determine the tornado’s intensity and assess the damage.
